Church Retreat at Beersheba 2017

September 29—October 1, 2017

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalm 41:1-2

The Spiritual Formation Team is preparing for our Annual Church Retreat beginning September 29-October 1. Originally, we had started with just one day Retreat but over the last two years, the interests of the attendees have increased that from one over-night, we have moved to two night stay at Beersheba Springs Assembly. So, back by popular demand, once again we have reserved two nights at Beersheba Springs Assembly.

Beersheba Springs Assembly is owned and operated by the Tennessee Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Their mission is to provide sacred space away from the ordinary and to offer their guests radical hospitality while providing the opportunity to discover and connect with God and each other so that they may go into the world and make disciples for Jesus Christ. Within easy driving distance from Beersheba Springs Assembly are unique shops, hiking trails of varying difficulty, swimming and breathtaking scenery.

Our guest speaker will be Rev. Stephen Handy, currently the lead pastor at McKendree UMC, Nashville, TN. He is a visionary strategist and partnership collaborator of the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. He is a passionate communicator that desires to speak God’s truth so people of different cultures, experiences, neighborhoods, and all of God’s unique diversity can be reconciled through the unity in Jesus Christ.

Rev. Handy is a strong advocate of restorative justice, serving the poor and needy, and participating in life groups for spiritual formation and accountability. He is a firm believer in maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle by honoring God with our bodies through our thoughts, words, and actions. And ultimately Rev. Handy loves spending time with God, family and friends by imitating Jesus Christ and making a lasting difference in our community and the world.

Come and enjoy the breath-taking scenery, inspirational messages, home-cooked meals, uplifting music, free time to rest and relax! The Retreat begins on Friday evening which is optional and informal and concludes Sunday morning after worship. If you are unable to be there for a night or two, you may just come on Saturday for a time of spiritual enrichment, fun and fellowship! You don’t want to miss this wonderful opportunity of growing deeper in your walk 430-with God and with one another! If you have any questions and or suggestions for the Retreat, please talk to Lydia Oliver (615-4016) or Felicia Kumar (615-459-2826, Ext.13). Watch for further details soon!
