Celebrating 28 Years of Dedicated Service

Sheila Upham, a faithful member of our church family, joined the Smyrna First Preschool in 1987.  She became the Director of the Preschool in 1988 and later became the Co-Director as the enrollment began to increase.  Over the past 28 years Sheila has been sincere and loyal in her dedicated service to the Preschool.  In a nutshell, Sheila describes her experience in the following way:  "I have loved every moment with the preschoolers,  They always put a smile on my face no matter what was going on in my life."  After much prayer and thought, Sheila has decided to end her services with the Preschool due to family obligations and responsibilities.  Sheila, we thank you for everything that you have invested in the lives of the precious little ones as well ad the teachers.  Certainly, you will be greatly missed.  We wish you God's abundant blessings in the next phase of your life.

Preschool Ministry Objectives

The Smyrna First United Methodist Preschool is a weekday ministry of the Church with a long history of service to the Smyrna community for nearly 50 years offering morning Preschool classes for ages 12 months to 5-year olds from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The mission of the Preschool is to provide a healthy, loving, Christian educational atmosphere for a child’s development through his or her formative preschool years. We are dedicated to helping each child make the most of these special years, while respecting the need of every child to be just that – a child. Under a capable and loving staff, the children will be helped to grow in independence and social, emotional, and physical development.

We offer many activities which enhance their own unique talents and abilities. These include interest centers; educational table activities; group time with songs, stories and finger plays; occasional field trips; and outdoor playground facilities.

We seek to provide an environment and experience that will allow your child to make a successful transition from home to school and to lay the foundation for a lifelong Christian journey. It is our goal to:

• Develop social skills with other children
• Develop an interest and joy in learning
• Develop self-control
• Develop a feeling of success
• Develop self-expression
• Develop creativity
• Develop a secure feeling through trusting relationships
• Develop Christian values
